What is a refactor ?
In software engineering, a refactor is the process of restructuring existing code without changing what it does on the surface. You keep the same inputs and outputs, but you rebuild the internals — making the system clearer, faster, and ready to handle what comes next.
That's the idea behind this project.
The raw material of news — the reporting, the sources, the data — already exists. What's broken is the delivery layer: the algorithms that prioritize engagement over understanding, the fragmented feeds that show you headlines without context, the information architecture that treats every story as isolated and disposable.
We're refactoring that layer. Same sources, same journalism, same facts on the ground — but restructured so you can actually see how stories connect, how narratives develop over time, and what the people closest to the action are saying across multiple outlets.
AI doesn't replace the reporting. It does the synthesis work that no single newsroom can do at scale: clustering related stories, tracing how an event evolves across days and weeks, surfacing the debate behind the headline, and letting you ask questions about it all in real time.
And we don't stop at text. The world doesn't explain itself in a single format, so neither do we. A developing story might combine written analysis with curated video segments, audio briefings you can listen to on the go, live social sentiment from X, prediction market odds, interactive maps and data visualizations, and AI-powered Q&A that lets you interrogate the narrative on your own terms. Every modality adds a dimension that the others can't.
News doesn't need more content. It needs better architecture — and richer ways to experience it.
What We Built

Curated Stories
Interactive scrollytelling experiences with map visualizations, timelines, and data-driven narratives on major global topics.

Spaces
Deep-dive topic hubs that bring together news, educational content, key metrics, prediction markets, and glossaries in one view.

The Pulse
AI-powered news discovery that clusters headlines, enriches stories from multiple angles, and pairs them with prediction market data.
From the Founder
I started Refactor because I was frustrated with how news is delivered. Every story appears as an isolated fragment, no connection to what came before, no thread to follow as events develop. The reporting is often excellent. The architecture around it is not.
So I'm building something different: a platform where stories develop over time, where essays go deep instead of skimming the surface, and where curated topic spaces bring together news, data, and context in one place. Some of the essays reflect my personal point of view. They're my attempt to make sense of complex subjects, not the final word on them.
I write about geopolitics, technology, democracy, and the forces reshaping the world, for readers who want depth over speed and analysis over headlines.

Principles
Journalism Matters
None of this is possible without first-class journalists on the front lines. Platforms like this don’t replace reporting — they build on it. Every source surfaced, every story synthesized, starts with the work of reporters who are actually there.
No Echo Chambers
Every story is analyzed from multiple angles, every claim traced back to its sources. I’m building the opposite of an algorithm that feeds you what you already believe — a platform that challenges assumptions and lets you form your own informed view.
Ship Fast, Iterate Faster
I apply a Silicon Valley mindset to this project — deploy quickly, learn from real usage, and improve constantly. That means you might occasionally spot a bug or rough edge. I’m committed to fixing them as fast as they appear. Speed and iteration beat perfection every time.
AI-Native, Always Evolving
Every advance in AI is an opportunity to tell richer, more visually compelling stories. I’m constantly integrating the latest developments — from smarter analysis to more complex interactive narratives — so the platform keeps getting better as the technology does.
Built on Curiosity
This project started because I was curious about the world and what was possible in storytelling. That curiosity is the engine. If you have ideas for new features, stories, or improvements, I want to hear them. Use the chat at the bottom of the page to brainstorm, or reach out to me directly. The best ideas will come from this community.
Opinion, Not Authority
Some of the essays and curated stories on this platform reflect my personal point of view. I’m not claiming to be an expert in the topics I cover — I’m merely someone who’s genuinely interested and engaged. These pieces are my attempt to make sense of complex subjects, not the final word on them.
Support Journalism
If you don't already subscribe to a news outlet, consider starting today.
The reporting that powers platforms like ours depends on newsrooms with the resources to put journalists on the ground. A subscription is the most direct way to keep that work going.
